For an introduction for the PG Cert course I was asked what is Padagogy and what does it mean to me?
I decided to create a video for my talk and my discovery of the term Padagogy.
Pedagogy is the theory and practice of teaching. It involves the design and implementation of educational curricula, as well as the development of methods for instruction and assessment.
There are many different approaches to pedagogy, and the best approach for a given situation will depend on a variety of factors, including the age and abilities of the students, the subject matter being taught, and the goals of the educational program.
One way to apply pedagogy in teaching is to use a student-centred strategy, which puts the needs and interests of the students at the centre of the learning experience. This can involve techniques such as active learning, where students are actively engaged in the learning process through activities such as group work, problem-solving, and hands-on projects.
Another approach is to use a constructivist approach, where the teacher facilitates the learning experience by providing opportunities for students to construct their own understanding of the subject matter. This can involve techniques such as inquiry-based learning, where students are encouraged to ask questions and explore the subject matter on their own.
Using appropriate assessment methods to measure students’ understanding is also important. Formative assessments like quizzes, self-evaluations, and observations are a great way to help students and teachers understand how much students have learnt and what areas need improvement.
Creating an inclusive learning environment and providing accommodations for different learning styles and abilities is also essential.
In summary, effective pedagogy involves using various teaching methods and assessment tools to meet student’s diverse needs and interests and creating an inclusive learning environment that allows all students to achieve their full potential.
